A name. A moment. An opportunity.
Good names can
come around again.
A domain’s expiry can be the start of someone else’s next chapter. Here’s where domain catching fits in.
The idea behind a catch
From an existing registration
to a new opportunity.
Expiry alone doesn’t make a domain available. The current holder may still be able to renew it before the registry releases it.
- 01 /
A registration ends
If a domain isn’t renewed, it can move through the registry’s expiry process. It may still be renewed during that process.
- 02 /
The registry releases it
A domain only becomes available for a new registration if it reaches release. Until then, it is not available to catch.
- 03 /
A catching attempt is made
A catching service attempts to register it when it is available. Other parties can compete for the same name.
An attempt is never a guarantee. A domain may be renewed, may not be released as expected or may be registered by someone else.

A backorder, explained
It starts with a request.
A backorder asks a service to attempt to catch a particular domain for you if that domain is released. It does not give you ownership of the domain, priority over the current holder or a guarantee that the catch will succeed.
In this release, DropSnare accounts are available but backorders are not yet open. Creating an account does not place an order or reserve a name.
